In a surprising move, former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake recently announced his endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. Flake, a Republican, made the announcement on Sunday, throwing his support behind Harris for president and Governor Tim Walz for vice president.
Having served with both Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Flake spoke highly of their character and love for the country. “I know them. I know first-hand of their fine character and love of country,” Flake shared on social media.
Flake’s endorsement of Harris is not isolated, as a growing number of Arizona Republicans have joined the Arizona Republicans for Harris Advisory Committee, showing support for her campaign with 120 members.
Flake, known for his criticism of former President Donald Trump, emphasized the importance of using the political process to debate and persuade rather than disparage and demonize. He expressed his desire to support a presidential candidate who understands and appreciates differences.
The endorsement comes shortly after Harris’s visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, highlighting the importance of immigration issues in the current political landscape.
Flake, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013 and as a U.S. Senator from 2013 to 2019, has been vocal about the need for the Republican party to move on from Trump and focus on a more inclusive and diverse future.
With this endorsement, Flake adds his voice to the chorus of bipartisan support for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, positioning her as a strong contender in the upcoming election.
