The Rise and Setback of DaRon Holmes II in the NBA
DaRon Holmes II, a promising basketball star from Millennium High School and AZ Compass Prep, faced a major setback in his rookie season after tearing his Achilles tendon during a game for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League. As reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, this injury is expected to sideline him for the entire 2024-25 season.
Holmes, initially drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the No. 22 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, was later traded to the Denver Nuggets. In exchange, the Suns acquired the No. 28 pick which they used to select Virginia forward Ryan Dunn.
Before this unfortunate injury, Holmes had an impressive college career, being named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Year while playing for the Dayton Flyers. With averages of 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, he was considered one of the Nuggets’ most promising young players.
