Delayed Sentencing for Man Convicted of Killing GCU Students in Traffic Crash
Tragedy struck in 2022 when a deadly crash claimed the lives of three Grand Canyon University freshmen. Abriauna Hoffman, 18, Elaine Hunter Balberdi, 19, and Magdalyn (Maggie) Ogden, 18.
Sentencing for the man responsible for this horrific incident, Vincent Ian Acosta, has been delayed. Acosta, 27, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in connection to the crash that occurred on Oct. 10, 2022, in New River along Interstate 17 near Table Mesa Road.
Acosta’s arrest revealed that his blood test results indicated potential impairment at the time of the crash. Originally scheduled for Sept. 27, Acosta’s sentencing has been re-assigned to Judge Sam Myers, now set for Oct. 8.
