Eugenio Suárez Hits Go-Ahead Homer as D-backs Sweep Red Sox
Eugenio Suárez launched a go-ahead three-run homer over the Green Monster, propelling the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. This win marked the D-backs’ sixth consecutive victory and their second straight sweep.
Currently holding the NL’s top wild-card spot, the Diamondbacks (75-56) achieved a season-high 19 games over .500 with their 34th win in 47 games. Geraldo Perdomo also contributed with a solo homer around the Pesky Pole.
Suárez, who was on fire with a 4-for-4 performance, delivered a key two-run double off the Green Monster in Saturday’s game and a grand slam over it in Friday’s series opener.
Rafael Devers hit his 200th career homer, a three-run shot, making him the 11th Red Sox player to reach that milestone. Triston Casas and Tyler O’Neill each added a solo homer for Boston, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Diamondbacks’ offensive prowess.
This victory in Fenway marked the D-backs’ second sweep in the historic ballpark, with the first one dating back to June 2002.
Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks continued his impressive streak by safely reaching base for the 34th consecutive start with a single in four at-bats.
On the pitching side, Merrill Kelly (4-0) put in a strong performance, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings. Justin Martinez secured the win with his sixth save, despite giving up O’Neill’s late-game homer.
Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks are set to face the Mets after an off day, with LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (2-0, 3.94 ERA) scheduled to start the series opener.
