Save Big on Halloween Costumes with These Tips
Halloween costumes can break the bank, but there are ways to save money and still look fantastic this spooky season. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent a record-high $12 billion on Halloween costumes last year, with the average consumer shelling out around $108. That’s a lot of cash for a one-night outfit!
But fear not, thrifty shoppers, there are plenty of ways to cut costs on costumes for the whole family. By opting for a do-it-yourself costume or hitting up thrift stores like Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona, you can find affordable and creative costume options.
For example, Mjellma Gashi scored a “Little Red Riding Hood” costume for just a few bucks at Goodwill. Nathan Alberts found a referee outfit for next to nothing, and Becca Stepp put together a 1950s ensemble on a budget.
According to Rodney Scearce, senior director of communications for Goodwill, shopping thrift can save you big bucks compared to purchasing a new costume elsewhere. You can find everything you need for $15-$20, a fraction of the cost of new costumes at big-box stores.
Another great option for affordable costumes is the annual Halloween costume sale at Bender Performing Arts in North Phoenix. Co-owner Kevin Bender shared that they offer a wide range of costumes, shoes, props, hats, and wigs at prices ranging from $5-$30, with some items never having been worn.
Not only can you snag a great deal at the Bender Performing Arts sale, but you’ll also be supporting their nonprofit outreach programs that benefit local kids. Plus, if you don’t end up wearing your costume for Halloween, there are plenty of other opportunities to dress up throughout the year.
Don’t miss out on these budget-friendly costume options this Halloween season! The Bender Performing Arts sale will be held from Sept. 23-28, 2024, and you can find your nearest Goodwill store location here.
