Having a criminal record can create barriers to employment, housing, and other opportunities for individuals looking to move forward in life. It can be a significant challenge to overcome, but there are resources available to help navigate the process of repairing past mistakes.
Recently, a workshop was held at CPLC’s Central Park Rec Center in Phoenix to provide valuable information on how to address and repair criminal histories. Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) partnered with Arizona Legal Women and Youth Services (ALWAYS) to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to move towards a brighter future.
“A lot of people with criminal records face stigmas and biases that can hinder their ability to secure basic necessities such as housing and employment. Programs like criminal history repairs, set-asides, and expungements can significantly improve their chances of overcoming these challenges,” said Rachel Holesha, Legal Advocate with ALWAYS.
The workshop offered a comprehensive overview of the process, with another scheduled for October 18 at CPLC Central Park Rec Center and a clinic with one-on-one legal meetings at CPLC Keogh on October 28. These events aim to provide personalized support and guidance to individuals seeking to overcome their past and build a better future.
If you or someone you know is struggling with a criminal record, don’t hesitate to reach out and take advantage of these resources to help navigate the path towards positive change.
