The excitement of the 2024 high school football season has officially begun in Arizona, and with it comes the return of Friday Night Fever for its 35th season on 12News!
This season introduces a new segment on the show where the top plays of the night are now known as “Sweet Plays” with higher stakes than before.
Each week, three standout plays will be nominated to become the Sweet Play of the Week, putting the decision in the hands of the fans. The weekly winners will be eligible to compete for the Sweet Play of the Year, with the ultimate prize being a $5,000 scholarship for the winning player, courtesy of Sweet James Injury Attorneys.
Week 1 Sweet Plays
Here are the plays nominated for the first Sweet Play of the Week:
- Red Mountain QB Simon Lopez’s pass to WR Tyreke Cornette for a touchdown
- Mountain Ridge RB Vincent Norfolk’s 77-yard touchdown run
- Arcadia QB Braylen Rooney’s recovery of a fumbled snap and pass to Ian Slater for a touchdown
