Spencer Rattler, a former standout at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, showcased his potential as a backup quarterback as he led a game-winning drive in the final minute for the New Orleans Saints.

Rattler, a fifth-round pick out of South Carolina, orchestrated a clutch 12-play, 56-yard drive culminating in a 37-yard field goal by Charlie Smyth with five seconds remaining to secure a 16-14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in preseason action.

Competing for the backup quarterback spot with Jake Haener, Rattler impressed with a 4-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, adding to his legacy that began at Pinnacle High School and continued through Oklahoma and South Carolina.

New Saints rookie left tackle Taliese Fuaga, the 14th overall pick from Oregon State, also showcased his talents in the game.

On the opposing side, the Arizona Cardinals sat most of their starters, with the exception of top pick Marvin Harrison Jr., as they evaluated backup quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune for the No. 2 spot behind Kyler Murray, who did not play.

The offensive battle resulted in a slow start for both teams, with the Saints taking a 6-0 lead at halftime before securing the victory with Rattler’s heroics.
