The Dismissal of Charges in the Case of Zahriya Moreno
Prosecutors have recently made the decision to dismiss the case against Angelito Olivas, who was arrested in connection to the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old Zahriya Moreno, following an incident near Tucson last month. Olivas was facing charges of felony domestic violence aggravated assault and felony endangerment.
According to officials, Olivas and Moreno had engaged in an argument which resulted in Moreno sustaining severe injuries. Olivas then took her to the hospital, where she later passed away.
News 4 Tucson reached out to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for an update on the case. In response, the agency released a statement explaining their decision:
“After a comprehensive and extensive meeting with Zahriya Moreno’s family, the Pima County Attorney’s Office has moved to dismiss the matter, so that further investigation and testing can be conducted in the case. Our goal is to ensure that our decisions in charging cases are made with all the available information to provide a fair and just judicial process.”
