Welcome to the Big Lots Store Closing Update!
Big news from the discount retail world! Big Lots, the popular discount retailer, recently announced plans to close over 340 stores nationwide. This decision comes just a few days after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
In a recent filing on September 11, the Columbus, Ohio-based company updated its store closing list, now including a total of 344 locations across 41 states! As part of these closures, the leases for 296 Big Lots stores have gone up for auction this week.
In addition, Big Lots confirmed earlier this week that it intends to sell its assets and ongoing business operations to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. This move is part of the company’s restructuring efforts following the bankruptcy filing.
Among the states with the highest number of Big Lots store closings are California (75 stores), followed by Florida (28), Arizona (22), and Texas (16).
