Arizona State Football: Sam Leavitt Named Starting Quarterback for 2024 Season
The Sun Devils have announced that redshirt freshman Sam Leavitt will be their starting quarterback for the upcoming 2024 season. Leavitt, who transferred to ASU from Michigan State, has earned the starting role after impressing head coach Kenny Dillingham during fall camp.
Dillingham expressed his confidence in Leavitt, stating, “Sam Leavitt is going to be our starting quarterback. We believe we have a lot of quarterbacks that can win games on this team, and I feel our depth is really good.”
Leavitt will make his debut as the starting quarterback in ASU’s home opener against Wyoming at Mountain America Stadium. The talented redshirt freshman played four games for Michigan State last season, showcasing his skills with a 65.2% completion rate and two touchdowns.
Throughout fall camp, Leavitt’s consistent performance set him apart from the competition, proving his ability to secure the starting position with his strong ball security and adaptability on the field. Dillingham praised Leavitt’s progress, noting his improved pace and decision-making.
Originally from Oregon, Leavitt was highly regarded in high school, earning accolades as the 2022 Oregon football Player of the Year. He chose to transfer to ASU over other schools like Washington State, showcasing his commitment to the Sun Devils’ program.
Leavitt’s relationship with Coach Dillingham dates back to his recruitment days at Florida State, further solidifying his place as ASU’s starting quarterback. Fans can catch Leavitt in action when the Sun Devils kick off the 2024 season against Wyoming on August 31 at Mountain America Stadium.
