The Impact of Inflation on the Arizona State Fair
As Arizonans navigate through the effects of inflation in various aspects of their lives, the impact is also being felt at the Arizona State Fair. From grocery prices to housing costs, the pinch of inflation is evident, and fair-goers have expressed surprise at the increased prices of their favorite foods, games, and rides this year.
Nate Janousek, the owner of Bacon-A-Fair, shared his observations as a vendor who travels across the country. He highlighted the challenges posed by inflation, noting that this year has been particularly tough. Rising costs of ingredients and gas have affected his business, although he made the decision not to raise menu prices, prioritizing customer satisfaction over profit margins.
Alicia Soto, the owner of Alicia’s Mexican Kitchen, echoed similar sentiments, mentioning a decline in sales and the need to adjust prices due to increased travel expenses and labor costs. Despite the adjustments, Soto emphasized that it’s still a struggle to maintain profitability in the current economic climate.
While admission to the fair remains at $15 for individuals over the age of 7, Arizona Exposition and State Fair Marketing Director Brianda Martinez assured visitors that there are plenty of budget-friendly options available. Special days and promotional deals can be found on the fair’s website, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the experience without breaking the bank.
Although prices may be higher than previous years, vendors hope that customers will focus on the unique experience the fair offers annually. Janousek emphasized the significance of the fair in people’s lives, highlighting the anticipation and delight it brings to attendees each year.
