Flagstaff Man Sentenced to Prison for Arson
A recent case out of Flagstaff has resulted in a 21-year-old man being sentenced to prison for arson. Dahntay Dunbar was handed a 20-month prison sentence, followed by 60 months of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Roslyn O. Silver.
The sentencing also included an order for Dunbar to pay $20,146.13 in restitution. This punishment stems from Dunbar’s guilty plea to arson of a dwelling that occurred at the Grand Canyon National Park in May 2024.
According to officials, Dunbar entered a locked cabin in the park that belonged to his former girlfriend. He proceeded to set fire to some of her possessions, which was discovered by a bystander who managed to put out most of the fire before authorities arrived.
Dunbar was later arrested by National Park Service law enforcement rangers on separate charges and admitted to committing the arson. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that can result from reckless actions.
