As the current administration in Mexico nears its end, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted one of the positive aspects of his government from the National Palace. He pointed out that despite the depreciation of the Mexican currency, it will be the least devalued in 50 years.
Emphasizing that the ‘super peso’ is now a thing of the past, the President mentioned that the currency has shown resilience, attributing its fluctuations to external factors rather than the uncertainty surrounding issues like the judicial reform, as suggested by other countries.
President López Obrador also cited achievements in bringing social stability and economic growth to the country, leading to a reduction in poverty levels while tax revenue continues to increase.
He expressed confidence that even if the peso were to depreciate in the remaining 20 days of his term, it would still be the least devalued in 50 years. This, he believes, is a significant accomplishment for his administration.
In his message, he portrayed Mexico as a strong nation where citizens have empowered authorities, leading to greater happiness due to improved income levels and low unemployment rates, ranking the country as second with the fewest jobless claims.
Looking towards his departure from office, López Obrador stated that he would retreat and not engage with what he considers adversaries, opting to enjoy his property in Chiapas, Mexico. He expressed trust in the decisions that his successor, Claudia Sheinbaum, will make regarding pending issues from his government.
