Debunked: Trump Wading Through Floodwaters Image
Recently, a photo circulating on social media showed former President Donald Trump purportedly wading through floodwaters in Valdosta, Georgia. However, upon closer examination, VERIFY has determined that the image is not real and was actually generated with artificial intelligence (AI).
AI technology, specifically generative AI, can create new content, including images, videos, audio, and text, based on a prompt. In this case, the image of Trump and another individual navigating floodwaters displayed several visual cues that indicated it was computer-generated.
For instance, the details in the image were distorted, such as the misshapen features on Trump’s hand and the unidentifiable text on the other person’s hat and nametags. Additionally, despite the appearance of deep water in the image, the clothes of the individuals did not appear wet, which further suggested the image’s falsity.
Comparing the AI-generated image to actual footage of Trump’s visit to Georgia from reputable sources like The Associated Press, Getty Images, Fox News, NBC News, and Trump’s own social media posts, it is clear that the former President was not wearing the same attire during his official visit. News coverage confirmed that Trump wore a suit, red tie, and Make America Great Again hat during his trip, and he did not visit any flooded areas.
