At Coulter Motor Company, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service and honest pricing to our customers. However, we have recently come under fire for allegations of deceptive advertising practices, fraud, and discrimination against Latino customers at our two Tempe locations.
But, we are taking steps to address these issues and ensure that our customers are treated fairly and respectfully. We have agreed to comply with a court order and will be paying $2.6 million, with most of the funds going to customers who were allegedly harmed by our actions.
Attorney General Kris Mayes stated, “Coulter’s deceptive and discriminatory practices are unacceptable. My office will not tolerate this kind of predatory behavior.” We understand the seriousness of these allegations and are committed to making things right.
The complaint filed by Mayes and the FTC alleges that Coulter violated consumer rights and fraud laws at our Coulter Cadillac Tempe and Tempe Buick GMC locations. We deny these allegations, but we have agreed to the court order to avoid prolonged litigation.
As part of the settlement, we will be implementing a fair lending program, appointing a fair lending officer, providing employee training, and creating new policies for charging fees and markups. We are dedicated to doing things the right way and ensuring the trust of our customers.
While we firmly deny the allegations, we are committed to transparency and accountability. We will continue to review our practices and make any necessary changes to uphold the standards of integrity and fairness that Coulter Motor Company stands for.
