More than 3,200 votes were cast for the 10 finalists, and the top two messages have been chosen as the winners of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s annual safety message contest.

“Drive with Care, life has no spare” and “Watch your speed not your social feed” were selected as the winning messages for the 2024 Safety Message contest, announced by ADOT in a news release on Friday.

The winners, Dori Brock of Casa Grande and David Dixon of Ahwatukee, emerged victorious among the 10 finalists after receiving the most votes from the public.

A proud ADOT Director Jennifer Toth expressed gratitude for the participation of thousands of Arizonans in the Safety Message Contest, emphasizing the importance of safe driving habits such as avoiding distractions and not speeding.

Both Brock and Dixon, along with Dixon’s family, were invited to ADOT’s Traffic Operations Center to input their winning messages into the Dynamic Message Sign system and witness them go live via highway cameras. These messages will be displayed on overhead message boards during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

Brock shared that the message “Drive with care, life has no spare” was a phrase her mother often told her, especially as she started driving, and she hopes that drivers will reflect on its significance when they see it on the roads.

Meanwhile, Dixon revealed that he brainstormed ideas with his wife until they landed on the winning message, hoping that it would not only amuse drivers but also prompt them to prioritize safe driving habits for a secure journey home.
