West Fire Update: 15,074 Acres Burned and 72% Contained
Payson, Arizona – The West Fire, ignited by lightning, has been raging 13 miles north-northwest of Payson since Wednesday, Aug. 28. As of the latest update, the fire has spread to 15,074 acres and is currently 72% contained, thanks to the efforts of dedicated fire crews.

Latest Fire Updates
- Residents east of SR 87 and east of North Pine Creek Canyon Road are under “READY” status.
- Geronimo Estates residents are also in “READY” status.
- Tonto National Forest has closed the land surrounding the fire, including the Pine Trailhead.
Evacuation Information
The following communities are under evacuation orders:
- Residents east of SR 87 and east of North Pine Creek Canyon Road – “GO”
- Residents in Geronimo Estates – “SET”

Road Closures
Access to Geronimo Estates from SR 87 has been rerouted to Houston Mesa Road due to the fire.
Shelter Information
