The Heroic ASU Student: A Story of Bravery and Courage
It was a normal day on the ASU campus until chaos broke out. A young student, Mara Daffron, was viciously attacked and stabbed multiple times. Amid the panic, one man stood out – Matthew McCormick, a Navy Veteran and fellow ASU student. Without a second thought, he sprang into action, stopping the attacker and preventing her escape. McCormick’s quick thinking and bravery saved the day.
Thanks to McCormick’s heroic actions, the assailant, Kaci Sloan, was apprehended and now faces severe felony charges, including premeditated attempted murder. The victim, Mara Daffron, is currently recovering from surgery and is expected to be okay.
McCormick’s selfless act has earned him praise from Daffron’s family, who now consider him a hero. In a statement, McCormick humbly expressed, “I just did what needed to be done, and I think everybody has the capacity to be able to do that.”
Describing Daffron as vibrant and energetic, McCormick shared that he has taken classes with her and considers her an overall great person. Reflecting on the incident, he emphasized the importance of immediate action in such situations.
Court documents have revealed the chilling details of Sloan’s motive, indicating that she targeted Daffron as an “easier target” without any personal vendetta. McCormick denounced this predatory behavior, emphasizing the despicability of preying on the vulnerable.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, there is a silver lining in the form of community support. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the Daffron family during Mara’s recovery journey. Those wishing to contribute can do so here.
