Former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley Joins Republicans Supporting Vice President Kamala Harris
Retired Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has added his name to a growing list of Republicans in Arizona endorsing the Democratic presidential ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Romley, a Marine veteran and former Purple Heart recipient, served as the county’s top prosecutor from 1989 to 2004 and again in 2010.
Having been outspoken against former President Donald Trump’s actions during his time in office, Romley endorsed Democrat Kris Mayes for Attorney General in 2022, contributing to a race that was decided by less than 300 votes.
The Arizona Republicans for Harris Advisory Committee, with 120 members including 90 new additions, boasts prominent figures like former state legislators Rich Crandall, Joel John, Bob Worsley, and Steve May, as well as other influential individuals in Arizona politics.
Arizona witnessed firsthand the consequences of Trump’s attempts to discredit the 2020 election results, leading to threats against election workers and public officials. This backlash has spurred many Republicans, like Romley and others, to stand against what they view as harmful actions by the former president and his allies.
Joel John, a former legislator and lifelong Republican, expressed his support for Harris, highlighting the importance of preserving democracy and the rule of law in the face of recent challenges.
Despite pushback from some within the party, Republicans like Romley and John believe that supporting Harris represents a commitment to upholding democratic principles and safeguarding the integrity of the American political system.
Harris is expected to visit Arizona for a campaign stop soon, reinforcing the importance of the state in the upcoming elections.
