Welcome to the Loop 101 Widening Project Blog!

Exciting new construction is about to kick off on the Loop 101 in the Northwest Valley, aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing commute times. This project will see the addition of a lane in each direction between Interstate 17 and 75th Avenue, along with modifications to bridges, frontage roads, and ramps. One notable change includes adding a third southbound left turn lane onto eastbound Loop 101, providing more space for vehicles during peak hours.

According to Arizona Department of Transportation spokesperson Doug Nintzel, these improvements have been in the works for years to address the increasing traffic demands in the region. The project is anticipated to take over two years to complete, with planned restrictions and closures to facilitate the construction process.

While some residents, like Roger Kieborz, have expressed concerns about potential noise disturbances and the extended construction timeline, ADOT reassures that they adhere to federal guidelines on noise abatement. Nintzel acknowledges the inconvenience of construction but urges patience from the community as they strive to complete the project efficiently.

Despite the challenges, many drivers agree that the additional lanes on Loop 101 will benefit commuters in the long run. Shannon Porter, a nearby resident, notes the constant construction in the state but emphasizes the importance of these upgrades for daily commuters.

The project is slated to commence on Friday, Sept. 27, and ADOT encourages individuals to stay informed about project updates, restrictions, and closures by following their online platforms.
