The Indictment of Saul Bal: A Phoenix Police Officer’s Tragic End
On September 3rd, tragedy struck the Phoenix Police Department as Officer Zane Coolidge lost his life in the line of duty at the hands of Saul Bal, a 41-year-old man facing first-degree murder charges. Bal is also accused of shooting and injuring Officer Matthew Haney during the incident.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the fatal encounter occurred near McDowell Road and 16th Street, after the officers caught Bal breaking into a car. A pursuit ensued, leading to the tragic outcome that resulted in Officer Coolidge’s death and Officer Haney’s injuries.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has announced that Bal has been indicted on multiple charges, including First Degree Murder, Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Burglary in the First Degree, and Misconduct Involving Weapons.
Officer Coolidge’s death has deeply impacted the community, and Officer Haney continues to recover from his injuries. The legal process is ongoing, with no trial date set for Bal at this time.
