Justin Timberlake has pleaded guilty to impaired driving, resolving the criminal case from his June arrest in the Hamptons. The singer appeared in Sag Harbor Village Court and entered a new plea to a lesser charge.
The judge sentenced Timberlake to a $500 fine, $260 surcharge, and 25 hours of community service. During the proceedings, Timberlake expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that he did not meet his own standards.
Timberlake stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity to move forward and hopefully help others make better decisions. I understand the seriousness of this and should’ve had better judgment.”
His original plea of not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated led to his driver’s license suspension. Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor after running a stop sign, showing signs of intoxication according to police.
Suffolk County District Attorney’s office declined to comment, and Timberlake’s license suspension in New York may impact his ability to drive in other states. Most states share license suspension information under the Driver’s License Compact.
Despite the legal implications, Timberlake has continued his tour in support of his latest album. He returns to the New York City area soon for more concerts.
Justin Timberlake’s public acknowledgement of his actions showcases his willingness to take responsibility and move forward positively.
