Phoenix Weather Update

PHOENIX — It’s not May, but it may feel like it if the weather cooperates this weekend. Some rainy weather is expected to make its way into the Phoenix area on Sunday, possibly driving down the forecasted highs below 100 degrees for the first time in months.

Sunday’s forecast high is expected to hit 99 degrees with a chance of rain. If the forecast holds up, it will be the first double-digit high since May 26.

Temperatures are finally falling for the Valley after more than 110 straight days of triple-digit highs. If the high is over 100 degrees on Saturday, it will mark 111 days in a row in the triple digits. The prior record 100-degree streak was 76 consecutive days set in 1993.

Talk about overachieving!

FORECAST: Are cooler Valley temps on the horizon?

The hottest temperature reached during our record-long hot spell was 118 degrees in early July. Next week will not only feature double-digit high temps but below-average readings as well.

According to the National Weather Service, the average last 100-degree day of the year occurs on Sept. 29. So we may still see a few more triple digits before month’s end.

It may still be a tad warm, but pretty soon 100-degree temps will fade from the forecast until 2025. Until then, we’ll welcome the lower temps with open arms.
