Tragedy struck in Lakewood when a 3-year-old boy lost his life after falling into a septic tank on a fateful Sunday afternoon. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department shared the heartbreaking news of the incident.
According to spokesperson Darren Moss, the young boy was playing with his older sibling in the backyard of their home on 93rd Street Court SW when the unimaginable happened.
It was reported that the boy wandered into the neighbor’s yard and unknowingly lifted the lid of the septic tank, which led to the tragic accident. Shockingly, there was no fence separating the two properties, making it easier for the child to access the hazardous area.
Upon realizing what had happened, the boy’s older sibling quickly alerted their grandmother, who was inside the house at the time. Emergency services were contacted immediately, but despite their efforts, the child could not be saved.
