In Memory of Officer Zane Coolidge
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Officer Zane Coolidge, a dedicated member of the Phoenix Police Department. Officer Coolidge fought bravely for several days after being shot while responding to a car break-in near 16th Street and McDowell Road. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Interim Police Chief Michael Sullivan expressed the department’s grief, urging the community to come together to mourn the loss of a beloved officer. Officer Coolidge, only 29 years old, leaves behind a loving family, including a wife and a five-month-old baby girl.
During an emotional interview, Chief Sullivan spoke of Coolidge’s legacy, emphasizing that he was not just an officer, but also a father, husband, brother, and son. Coolidge’s dedication to duty and his ultimate sacrifice will forever be remembered by his colleagues.
Officer Coolidge’s partner, Officer Matthew Haney, also came under fire during the incident. While Haney survived, he sustained injuries, including a bullet lodged in his body. The community rallied around the officers, expressing their gratitude for their courage in the face of danger.
Despite the tragedy, Chief Sullivan vowed that the Phoenix Police Department would continue to serve the community with integrity and courage, honoring Officer Coolidge’s memory. The department will stand by Coolidge’s family during this difficult time, offering support and assistance.
In a show of solidarity, a barbecue fundraiser will be held for Officers Coolidge and Haney and their families. The event will take place on Tuesday at the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association Headquarters. Additionally, donation pages have been set up by the Phoenix Police Foundation to support the officers and their loved ones.
Officer Coolidge’s sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his family will always be a part of the Phoenix police family. Let us honor his memory by continuing to support and appreciate the brave men and women who serve and protect our community.
