A devastating fire broke out on Friday afternoon at a residential complex in Tempe, Arizona, resulting in the tragic deaths of two dogs.

The Tempe Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene at University and McClintock drives, where a four-unit complex was engulfed in flames. Despite their best efforts, firefighters could only contain the fire to one unit, but the damage was extensive.

Tragically, two dogs perished in the fire, and one resident has been displaced. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine what sparked the tragic incident.

Did you know that “The Valley” refers to the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest?

The Valley comprises several major cities, including Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Surprise, Peoria, Gilbert, El Mirage, Avondale, Litchfield Park, Goodyear, and Buckeye. Each city contributes to the vibrant tapestry of the region, creating a diverse and dynamic community.

With a combined population of 4,845,832 people, according to the 2020 United States Census, the Valley is the 11th largest metropolitan area in the country. Its size and diversity make it a key player in shaping the cultural and economic landscape of the region.

But just how big is Maricopa County?

Maricopa County, the 4th largest county in the United States in terms of population, houses 4,485,414 residents, as per the 2020 Census. Spanning 9,224 square miles, the county encompasses approximately 63% of Arizona’s population, surpassing the size of several U.S. states.

Notably, Maricopa County boasts one of the largest park systems in the nation, with an estimated 120,000 acres of open space parks that offer a myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Phoenix serves as the county seat and state capital, embodying the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. The county was named after the Maricopa, or Piipaash, Native American Tribe, honoring the indigenous roots of the land.
