Welcome to our blog!
Imagine being a two-time Paralympic champion, representing your country on the world stage, but having to sleep on the floor because there isn’t a big enough bed. That was the reality for Morteza Mehrzadselakjani, better known as Mehrzad, a sitting volleyball player from Iran. Standing at an impressive 8-foot-1, he is not only the world’s second-tallest man but also the tallest Paralympian ever.
Despite facing this challenge while competing in Paris, Mehrzad’s determination and focus on becoming a champion never wavered. His coach, Hadi Rezaeigarkani, shared with Olympics.com that while there was a special bed made for Mehrzad in Tokyo, the same arrangement was not available in Paris. However, this did not deter Mehrzad’s spirit, as he continued to give his all on the court.
The situation with Mehrzad’s sleeping arrangements caught the attention of Paralympic organizers, who quickly intervened to find a solution. After receiving a request from Iran’s Paralympic committee, additional extensions were added to the standard bed to accommodate Mehrzad’s height.
It’s incredible to think that Mehrzad, despite facing challenges both on and off the court, remains focused on his goal of winning gold for Iran. His resilience and determination are truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see him in action as Iran competes for a third straight gold medal in sitting volleyball.
Follow Mehrzad’s journey and stay tuned for more updates on the Paralympic Games. Let’s cheer on all the amazing athletes as they continue to showcase their incredible talents and perseverance on the world stage!
