The Wildcats Shine in Big 12 Debut
Exciting times for the Arizona Wildcats as they put on a spectacular offensive performance in their first game as a Big 12 member. Tetairoa McMillan and quarterback Noah Fifita stole the show with their stellar performances.
Tetairoa McMillan set a school-record with 304 yards receiving and tied another record with four touchdown catches, all from Noah Fifita, in Arizona’s thrilling 61-39 victory over New Mexico. The Wildcats, under coach Brent Brennan, displayed an explosive offense, with McMillan and Fifita leading the charge.
McMillan and Fifita connected for a 69-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game and continued to dominate New Mexico’s defense throughout the match. McMillan’s performance was one for the record books, as he averaged 30.4 yards on 10 catches, setting a new Arizona single-game receiving record.
Fifita also had a standout game, finishing with 422 yards and four touchdowns on 19-of-31 passing. Quali Conley contributed to the offensive firepower with 90 rushing yards and three touchdowns, helping Arizona accumulate a total of 627 yards.
Despite New Mexico’s strong offensive efforts, led by Devon Dampier, the Wildcats’ offense proved too much to handle. McMillan’s remarkable display of talent, along with the chemistry between Fifita and McMillan, set the stage for a successful season ahead for Arizona under Coach Brennan.
The Takeaway
While Arizona showed strength on offense, there are areas to improve on the defensive end. New Mexico displayed glimpses of promise offensively but struggled defensively throughout the game.
