Rally in the Ninth Inning Propels Mets to Victory Over Diamondbacks
The New York Mets staged a thrilling comeback in the ninth inning to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2, thanks to Jose Iglesias’ clutch hit that drove in Tyrone Taylor.
It was a tense final inning as Jesse Winker kickstarted the rally with a key double off Justin Martinez. Taylor then came in as a pinch runner and advanced to third base before Iglesias delivered the game-winning hit that ricocheted off the diving shortstop’s glove.
This victory marked the Mets’ sixth win in their last ten games, showcasing their competitiveness against formidable opponents like the Orioles, Padres, and now the Diamondbacks.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed his confidence in the team, stating, “I know we’re good. We’re up for the competition.”
Francisco Lindor’s crucial solo home run in the sixth inning tied the game at 2, further highlighting the Mets’ resilience. The matchup saw standout performances from pitchers on both sides, with Ryne Nelson impressing for the Diamondbacks despite the eventual loss.
After a hard-fought series, the Mets emerged victorious, taking two out of three games and handing the Diamondbacks just their second series loss in 17 chances.
Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Mets gear up for a three-game road series against the Chicago White Sox.
