The Future of Coca-Cola in Tempe, ArizonaExploring the Valley

Coca-Cola, one of the world’s most recognizable brands, is expanding its production and distribution efforts in Tempe, Arizona. The Tempe City Council recently approved redevelopment plans for the Coca-Cola manufacturing facility near Elliot Road and Interstate 10. This move will see the construction of 125,000 square feet of new storage space, 62,000 square feet of manufacturing space, and landscaping improvements. The maximum building height will also be raised to 160 feet to accommodate the growth.

According to planning documents, the existing buildings at the facility do not meet current industry needs. The proposed redevelopment will involve removing outdated structures and reconfiguring the property with new truck and equipment storage, redesigned parking and landscaping, and the addition of a new manufacturing facility to complement the existing office and warehouse structures.

The Coca-Cola bottling plant in Tempe has been serving as one of the largest manufacturers of Coca-Cola products in the country since it first received a certificate of occupancy in 1981.

Exploring the Valley

“The Valley,” as locals fondly refer to the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, is a bustling region that comprises major cities such as Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, and more. With a combined population of 4,845,832 people according to the 2020 United States Census, the Valley ranks as the 11th largest metropolitan area in the country.

Maricopa County, where Tempe is located, is the United States’ fourth-largest county by population, with 4,485,414 residents. Spanning 9,224 square miles, the county is larger than seven U.S. states and is home to one of the nation’s most extensive park systems. From open space parks to miles of trails and nature centers, Maricopa County offers a diverse array of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Phoenix, the county seat and state capital, stands as the fifth-most populous city in the United States. Maricopa County takes its name from the Maricopa Native American Tribe, showcasing a deep connection to the region’s rich history and culture.

As Coca-Cola embarks on its expansion journey in Tempe, the future looks bright for both the iconic beverage company and the vibrant community it serves in the heart of the Valley.
