The 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris are just around the corner and Arizona has some remarkable athletes to root for. Let’s take a look at who to watch out for during the competition.
After the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics, all eyes are now on the 2024 Paralympics. Athletes from all over the globe will gather in the City of Light for a chance at glory on the world stage. The games kick off on Aug. 28 and will run until Sept. 8.
If you’re from Arizona, there are a number of athletes with ties to the state that you can support during the games. Here is a list of Arizona athletes who will be competing:
Allysa Seely
Bio: Allysa Seely, a para triathlete from Glendale, Arizona, found her passion for triathlon as a New Year’s challenge to embark on something new. Prior to her diagnosis, Seely was a member of the Arizona State University club triathlon team and a top-ranked triathlete.
Event: Para Triathlon, Aug. 31 – Sept. 2
Eric Bennett
Bio: Eric Bennett, a 50-year-old archer from Surprise, Arizona, developed a love for archery at the age of 7. Despite losing his right arm in a car accident at 15, Bennett continued pursuing his passion for archery and now serves as a high school physics and engineering teacher.
Event: Para archery, Aug. 30 – Sept. 5
Whitney Dosty
Bio: Tucson-born Whitney Dosty is a part of the sitting volleyball team for Team USA. Following an ankle injury that ended her standing career, Dosty transitioned to para-athlete status. Off the court, she enjoys her time as a fashion blogger.
Event: Sitting Volleyball, Sept. 1 – Sept. 7
Josh Wheeler
Bio: Tucson native Josh Wheeler, 44, competes on the wheelchair rugby team for Team USA. Wheeler’s life took a turn in 2006 when a motorcycle accident left him with a broken neck, leading to his wheelchair use.
Wheeler is married to Stephanie and is fluent in Spanish.
