Colorado Man Charged with Threatening Election Officials and Law Enforcement Officers
A Colorado man, Teak Brockbank, is currently facing federal charges for making online threats towards election officials in Colorado and Arizona, a Colorado state judge, and federal law enforcement agents. Brockbank, aged 45, appeared in court in Durango after being arrested in Cortez, Colorado. The FBI Denver Field Office is handling the investigation, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The charges against Brockbank include transmitting interstate threats, with allegations of making detailed and violent threats, including death threats, against public servants between September 2021 and August 2022. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. Brockbank used social media accounts to post numerous threats directed at election officials, emphasizing the need for “accountability,” questioning the integrity of various officials, and alleging corruption within state and federal agencies.
Investigations revealed that Brockbank had connections to multiple social media accounts, including Rumble and Gab. Court documents also highlighted his references to violent actions in some of the threatening messages, further exacerbated by the retrieval of firearm photos from his iCloud account. Despite being a convicted felon from a prior offense, Brockbank attempted to purchase a firearm in 2023 in Colorado, which was denied due to his felony status.
The arrest of Brockbank is part of the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, formed in June 2021 to combat violence and intimidation against election workers. This case is a stern reminder of the dangers posed by threats to public servants. U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland stressed that such threats are a threat to democracy and will not be tolerated.
This incident adds to a series of threats against political figures in Colorado in recent years, underscoring the need for vigilance and accountability in protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring the safety of public officials.
