Welcome to Glendale, Ariz.! The excitement was palpable as thousands of Donald Trump supporters gathered at Desert Diamond Arena to hear the former president and current presidential candidate speak. The lines stretched around State Farm Stadium, with an estimated 15,000 attendees eagerly awaiting Trump’s address.
During the rally, Trump made some bold claims that we’ve fact-checked for accuracy. Let’s dive into three of them:
Claim: Kamala Harris was the “border czar” in charge of the US border.
Trump’s Quote: “She was the border czar. She presided over the worst border in history.”
Verdict: There was no official title of “Border Czar,” and Kamala Harris never held that position. The group she led was focused on examining root causes of immigration, not border policy.
Claim: The Biden/Harris administration banned gas-powered cars.
Trump’s Quote: “A little while ago, she changed, didn’t she? Banning gas-powered cars?”
Verdict: There is no ban on gas-powered vehicles in the US. Claims of such a ban stem from misleading information circulated by an oil industry group.
Claim: Trump defeated ISIS in three weeks.
Trump’s Quote: “We wiped out ISIS very quickly. It was supposed to take five years to beat ISIS. I did it in three weeks.”
Verdict: Military operations against ISIS began before Trump’s presidency, and significant progress had already been made by the time he took office. The defeat of ISIS was a collective effort over several years.
