Stay Protected: Updated COVID-19 Vaccines Approved by U.S. Regulators
As the summer wave of the virus continues in most of the country, U.S. regulators have given the green light to updated COVID-19 vaccines designed to provide better protection against current virus strains and upcoming variants. Pfizer and Moderna will soon begin shipping millions of doses, with Novavax following suit shortly after.
According to FDA vaccine chief Dr. Peter Marks, it is highly recommended for eligible individuals to consider receiving the updated vaccine to bolster immunity against circulating variants.
Last fall’s vaccines targeted a different strain of the virus that is no longer prevalent, leaving many individuals with waning protection. The new vaccines are tailored for the latest branch of omicron descendants, offering improved responses against multiple virus subtypes.
With protection against mild infection lasting only a few months, high-risk individuals should not delay vaccination once doses become available in their area. This includes older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, nursing home residents, and pregnant women.
While healthy younger adults and children can get vaccinated any time, it is crucial for more youngsters to receive the vaccine as schools reopen amidst high COVID-19 levels nationwide. Teachers are also encouraged to get vaccinated promptly.
It is permissible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot simultaneously for added convenience. However, the ideal time for flu vaccination is typically late September through October, just before flu season peaks.
Don’t take chances with your health – stay protected and get vaccinated today!
