It is with great sadness that we report the tragic death of a 9-month-old baby, just one day after a 22-month-old toddler was found dead in a car in Corpus Christi.

The grandmother involved in the hot-car death of her granddaughter has been admitted to the hospital with cardiac issues, according to 3NEWS. While criminally negligent homicide charges are expected in this case, they have not been filed yet due to the woman’s health concerns.

These two heartbreaking incidents mark a devastating 24-hour period for the Coastal Bend community. The baby’s death occurred at the 100 block of East Flournoy Street in Beeville, where she was found unresponsive in a vehicle. The grandmother, who had last seen the child in the car at 8:30 a.m., tragically forgot about her until later in the afternoon.

Beeville PD Assistant Chief Richard Cantu Jr. emphasized the importance of vigilance, especially during the hot summer months, to ensure the safety of young children.

The Texas Rangers are assisting the Beeville PD in investigating this tragic event. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of the child’s death.

Cantu Jr. stressed the need for increased caution among parents, grandparents, and legal guardians, urging everyone to ensure that all passengers are safely removed from vehicles upon arrival.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family during this difficult time. If you would like to contribute, please visit this link.

Our thoughts are with the families affected by these tragedies, and we hope for justice and healing in the wake of such heartbreaking events.
