Rookie Adrian Del Castillo Sparks Arizona Diamondbacks to Victory
The Miami native, Adrian Del Castillo, made a major impact in Monday night’s game against the Miami Marlins. Del Castillo, who also played at the University of Miami, homered for the third time since being called up from the minors on Aug. 6.
Del Castillo drove in an impressive six runs, including his first career grand slam, to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 9-6 victory over the Marlins. His performance has been outstanding since joining Arizona, hitting .333 with 14 RBIs in just nine games.
Del Castillo expressed his joy about the game, stating, “Just trying to keep having fun with these guys and have to keep winning for sure.”
According to STATS, Del Castillo’s performance is historic as he became the third major league catcher to record at least six RBIs and a stolen base in a single game, joining Jerry Grote in 1981 and Johnny Bench in 1974.
Joining Del Castillo in the offensive showcase, Joc Pederson and Jake McCarthy also contributed with home runs for the Diamondbacks. Despite a recent sweep in a series, the Diamondbacks have been on a hot streak, boasting a major league-best record of 29-13 since July 1.
On the pitching side, Brandon Pfaadt put in a solid performance, allowing four runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win for Arizona.
Del Castillo’s highlight of the night was a grand slam in the third inning against Adam Oller, solidifying Arizona’s lead. The night was filled with memorable moments for Del Castillo, as he received overwhelming support from his family and friends in attendance.
Arizona’s manager, Torey Lovullo, praised Del Castillo’s performance, emphasizing the importance of his offensive contribution to the team’s success.
Overall, the Diamondbacks put on a stellar performance, with Del Castillo leading the charge with his standout play, securing a crucial win against the Marlins.
