Indictment for Theft: Nubia Gonzalez Faces Charges in Yuma County
Recent court proceedings have unveiled shocking details of an alleged fraud scheme carried out by Nubia Gonzalez, resulting in her indictment by a grand jury for theft in Yuma County. The case revolves around accusations that Gonzalez embezzled over $36,500 from the Cocopah Middle School ATP group, where she served as their treasurer.
According to court documents, Gonzalez wasted no time exploiting her position, swiftly making multiple cash withdrawals from the group’s Wells Fargo account immediately after gaining access. She diverted $22,300 into her personal checking account, using the ill-gotten funds to settle her credit card debts and cover expenses related to her children. To this day, a sum of $14,212.09 remains unaccounted for.
Moreover, police assert that Gonzalez manipulated bank records by fabricating a screenshot of a fictitious account balance, which she then sent to the ATP president. Detectives quickly identified the deception, noting a lack of authenticity in the image due to a discernible shadow at the bottom edge.
After a string of unsuccessful attempts to contact her through conventional means, Gonzalez surrendered herself to authorities following media reports detailing her alleged misconduct. Complicating matters further, court records reveal an existing warrant for her arrest in Yuma County related to misappropriation of public funds for personal use, a case currently under the purview of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Despite the gravity of the situation, details of the Yuma County indictment remain sealed until Gonzalez’s scheduled court appearance next week. In the interim, she remains in custody under a $40,000 secured bond in the Maricopa County case and an additional $30,000 bond in the Yuma County case.
