Tragedy struck in Sarasota County as a 12-year-old girl was airlifted to a children’s hospital after being hit by her mother’s vehicle near Booker Middle School. The incident occurred as students returned to school for the day, highlighting the importance of being vigilant and cautious around school zones.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 30-year-old mother had stopped near the school around 7:45 a.m. to drop her daughter off. As the girl exited the vehicle, she accidentally dropped markers and pens under the car. In a heartbreaking turn of events, as she bent over to pick up her supplies, the vehicle moved forward and collided with her.
The young girl was rushed to All Children’s Hospital with critical injuries, leaving the community in shock and disbelief. The FHP is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
