Fact-Checking Kamala Harris’ Claims About Donald Trump
Vice President Kamala Harris recently held a rally in Glendale, just outside of Phoenix, where she made several claims about former President Donald Trump. Let’s fact-check a few of those claims:
Claim: Trump would end the Affordable Care Act
Harris stated at the rally, “If Donald Trump wins in November, he intends to end the Affordable Care Act and take us back to a time when insurance companies have the power to deny people with pre-existing conditions.”
The Answer:
Former President Donald Trump indeed threatened to reopen the fight over the Affordable Care Act if he won a second term.
Claim: The bipartisan border security bill failed because of Trump
“Earlier this year we had a chance to pass the toughest bipartisan border security bill in decades, but Donald Trump tanked the deal,” Harris claimed.
The Answer:
While Trump took credit for the deal falling through, it was actually those who voted against it that killed the deal.
Claim: Trump would cut Social Security
“Donald Trump intends to give a tax break to billionaires and big corporations. He intends to cut Social Security and Medicare,” Harris alleged.
The Answer:
While Trump hasn’t specified cuts to Social Security benefits, his plan to cut Social Security taxes could potentially bankrupt the program faster.
Claim: Donald Trump called for the termination of the United States Constitution
The Answer:
Trump did indeed make a statement suggesting the termination of the Constitution in a post about the 2020 election.
