Welcome to the Exciting Arizona State Football Quarterback Battle at Camp TArizona Sports Scene

Football season is just around the corner, and Arizona State fans are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the starting quarterback for the upcoming season. The competition is heating up at Camp T, with two standout candidates emerging as front-runners: redshirt freshman Sam Leavitt and senior Jeff Sims, both newcomers to the program in 2024.

Coach Kenny Dillingham has been closely monitoring the progress of both Leavitt and Sims, as they battle it out on the field. While Leavitt has been taking most of the snaps with the first-team offense during fall camp, Dillingham is in no rush to make a final decision on who will lead the team as QB1.

“Our program is in a healthy state, and both Leavitt and Sims have shown great potential. They push each other to be the best they can be, and that healthy competition is beneficial for the team,” explained Dillingham.

During a recent practice, there were some accuracy issues and drops, but Offensive Coordinator Marcus Arroyo remains focused on the bigger picture. He emphasized the high standards set for the quarterbacks and the importance of continuous improvement, especially as the team navigates through a new offensive system.

Leavitt and Sims shared their perspectives on the ongoing competition, emphasizing the importance of consistency and self-improvement in their performances.

Leavitt highlighted, “Consistency and decision-making will play a crucial role in determining the starting quarterback. It’s about being reliable, making smart choices, and stepping up when the team needs you.”

Meanwhile, Sims revealed his approach, stating, “I focus on being consistent every day and challenging myself to improve. Learning from mistakes and staying focused on personal growth are key priorities for me.”

ASU fans can witness the quarterback battle firsthand during Saturday morning’s scrimmage at Camp Tontozona, starting at 9 a.m.
