Exciting news for Arizona Diamondbacks fans! After more than four months, Merrill Kelly is set to return to the mound at Chase Field. D-backs manager Torey Lovullo announced on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s ‘Burns and Gambo’ show that Kelly will very likely start Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Lovullo’s confirmation came as Kelly, who has been on the injured list since April 23, is gearing up for his comeback. The right-hander has been putting in the work and is expected to lead the pitching rotation on Sunday.
“Very, very likely, correct,” Lovullo mentioned when asked about Kelly’s return. “He’s got to throw his bullpen today, he’s here doing it at Chase Field. He feels great, looks great, and is in the 75-80 pitch range. We’ll make it official once everything is determined.”
This news comes as a relief to fans as Kelly’s return would complete the starting rotation alongside Zac Gallen, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jordan Montgomery, and Brandon Pfaadt, who have all faced injuries this season.
Kelly has been sidelined with a right shoulder strain since April but has been making progress in his recovery. After making a rehab start with the Hillsboro Hops, he is ready to make his mark again at Chase Field.
Don’t miss this exciting moment for the Diamondbacks and their loyal supporters. Stay tuned for Kelly’s anticipated return and enjoy the game on Sunday!
