The NBA Cup is back for the 2024 season, and the Phoenix Suns are gearing up to face tough competition in the group stage. The defending champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, will be among their rivals in the West B group, which also includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz, and San Antonio Spurs.
Each team’s seed in the group was determined by their win-loss record in the previous season, with the Thunder, Suns, Lakers, Jazz, and Spurs taking the top five spots respectively. The schedule for the games has yet to be announced, but fans can expect exciting matchups as the Suns take on the Lakers and Spurs at home and travel to face the Thunder and Jazz.
The NBA Cup format includes group stage games starting on November 12, with each team playing four games on designated Cup Nights until December 3. The team with the best record in each group, along with two wild card teams, will advance to the knockout rounds. In case of ties, various criteria will be used to determine the winner.
Players on teams progressing to the knockout rounds will have the opportunity to earn prize money based on their performance. The knockout rounds will be held on December 10-11, with the semifinals and championship taking place in Las Vegas on December 14 and 17 respectively.
With every game except the championship counting towards regular-season records and stats, teams not making it to the knockout rounds will play additional regular-season games. The Suns’ full schedule for the 2024-25 season is yet to be released, but fans can expect it to be announced in the first half of August, with the season kicking off in October.
