The Fight to Save Gilbert’s Historical Clare House
Imagine a cozy coffee shop in downtown Gilbert that has stood the test of time, preserving the rich history of its early 20th-century roots. This is the story of Clare House, a historical gem dating back to 1918, once home to the Clare family and a thriving metal shop for over 50 years.
Fast forward to today, and Clare House faces an uncertain future as it sits between bustling eateries and entertainment venues on Gilbert Road. The developer plans to replace this piece of history with a Bottled Blonde nightclub location, signaling the changing landscape of downtown Gilbert.
Casey Kendel, chair of Gilbert’s Redevelopment Commission and a guardian of the town’s growth, is leading the charge to save Clare House from demolition. The goal? Raise $135,000 to relocate the house to the Gilbert Historical Museum for preservation.
As the deadline looms, the fundraising efforts have reached a critical point. With only $23,000 raised so far, time is of the essence. The developer requires a decision by Monday, July 15th, to proceed with their plans.
But there is hope. With a few key donations, Clare House could be saved and moved to a new home, ensuring its legacy lives on. You can contribute to the cause by donating here to the Gilbert Historical Museum’s fund.
